MR J. E. STORY UNOPPOSED AS TAUPO'S FIRST MAYOR
18 COUNCIL CANDIDATES Nominations closed at noon on Friday last for Taupo's first Mayoral and Borcugh Council elections. Mr J. E. Story, who has been chairman of) the Town Board during its last term of office was the only nominee for the mayoralty, and thus becomes the first Mayorelect of the Borough of Taupo. Four nominations for membership of the Council were received in addition to those already reported in the "Times," these nominees being Col. J. E. Barton, Mr A. C. Foddy, Mr Te T. A. Grace and Mr J. E. Skeen. These nominations for the Borough Council bring the number of candidates for the eight seats up to eighteen. With the attainment of Borough status candidature for membership- of the local authority entails the deposit by each candidate of the Sum of £3, which is forfeited if the candidate fails to obtain ten per cent. of the total votes cast.
