INSTITUTE BIRTHDAY PARTY
TWENTIETH ANNIVERSARY The Taupo Women's Institute celebrated its twentieth birthday this year with a combined social and dance in Rickit's Hall on Saturday evening, September 26th. Col. J. D. Swan acted as M.C., and music was supplied by Mr W. Stowe on the piano. Two excellent sketches were presented by the Junior Dramatic Group, "The Sewing Circle" and "Miss Trippet's Farewell," those taking part being Pat Thomas, Gaynor Percival, Joy Kennedy, Gillian Woodward, Roseanne Redwood, Shona Torepe, Betty Watson and Ralma Risdon. A number of items were given, incuding a humourous recitation by Col. Swan, a piano solo by Mrs Fickling, piano duet by Mrs Sherwood and Mr Stowe, and two banjo mandolin solos by Mr J. G. Arnold. Mrs E. J. Arnold, president, spoke briefly, while Col. Swan congratulated the Institute on its twenty years of successful work. A birthday cake, baked and presented by Mrs k. Smith, and iced
by Mrs Stowe, was a prominent feature and with its twenty candles was a delight to see. Mrs Arnold, as president, blew out the candles, and an excellent supper was provided by members.
