YACHT CLUB FORMED
PLANS FOR SUMMER The was a good attendance at a •meeting held in Rickit's Hall on Friday last, convened by the Taupo Rowing Club for the purpose of establishing a * yaehting club in Taupo. The meeting succeeded in this intention, and duly formed a club to be known as "The Lake Taupo Yacht Club." The following were elected as first officers and committee of the new body: — Commodore, Mr • J. Stevenson; Vice-Commodore, Mr B. Holder; Secretary, Mr L. M. Smith; Treasurer, Mr R. Sinclair; Committee, Messrs P. Warbrick, P. Soies, G. Bonner, T. Coley, B. Lyons A general discussion took place on yaehting and related matters, and it was decided to call another meeting shortly. Class of Roat. The Committee met later tq decide on a class of boat suitable for Taupo conditions, that chosen being a small pram type yacht known as the "Yaehting World Cadet," which is recognised as an international class and may be quickly and cheaply built by amateurs. Dimensins are: — Length overall 10 feet 6|- inches; beam 4 feet 2 inches sail area 60 square feet approximately. The hull is a solid chine pram of plywood and the cost of construction is easily within the average worker's reach. Subscriptions to the club have been fixed §,t a low figure. In choosing* the club craft the Committee did not forget those who already have boats in Taupo and it is hoped that anyone interested with or without a boat will get j in touch with the secretary or other officer. The Christmas holiday season should see several local boats in the water. About six of the new Cadet type should be ready for the opening of the season in six to eight weeks.
