St. Andrew's Services. There will be no services at St. Andrew~'s Church, on Sunday next, October 11th, owing to the absence of the Rev. C. G. G. Salt. Mr Salt will be attending the Waiapu Diocesan Synod in Napier. Rubbish Removal Service. The Businessmen's Committee discussed the rubbish removal service at its recent meeting, and decided that Mr Vedder shoud see members of the Associaton who had not yet signed up the forms, but who were receiving the service. Possible Christmas Carnival. The Businessmen' Association Committee has decided to bring before all organisations which took part in last year's Carnival the matter of a possible Carnival during the Christmas-New Year period. It is suggested that such organisations might care to provide certain attractions or entertainments to interest visitors, and that a percentage of the takings from such efforts might be donated to the Children's Play ground project. Tuis in Town. 1 ' During the past week or so a number to tuis have been f requenting localities in the town, their beautiful notes drawing considerable attenion. Many of the notes of the tui are difficult to distinguish from those of the bell-bird, which is more commonly seen about the town and the lake beaches than the tui. Last spring up to a half a dozen tuis at a time, however, were seen on flowering gums in the William Street area, and it would seern tha>t the increasing number of nectar bearing trees and shrubs is attracting more than formerly. Closing Day Poll. It was decided at a meeting of the Businessmen's Association Committee on Wednesday of last week to have printed a number of cards, advocating Monday as the statutory closing day for shops in Taupo, and to place these in all shops. Christmas and New Year Holidays. The matter of the closing of shops during the Christmas and New Year holiday period was discussed by the Committee of the Businessmen's Association last week. Shops would probably have to close for four consecutive days, it was stated, Christmas Day and Boxing Day fallng respectively on a Friday and Saturday, and there being the possibility that Monday might then be the statutory closing day.
