RATEPAYERS' ASSOCIATION

NO SUPPORT FOR PETITION AGAINST TOWN PLANNING A report kindiy supplied by the Committee of the Taupo Ratepayers' Association states thata meeting of the Committee was held at Mr L. E. Pearse's residence on Wednesday, September 23rd, when there were present Mr J. W. Birnie, president, in the chair, and Miss Wehringo, secretary, Mrs T. M. Kent, Messrs G. Fraser, E. Yates, R. Sinclair, L. E. Pearse, B. Turton. It was decided that the Association was still waiting to receive a plan of the power reticulation and order thereof from the Borough Council and that there was a fair amount of criticism concerning the seeming haphazard method of "hooking up" employed. A letter from the Waikato Hospital Board secretary enclosed a report on the Taupo Hospital (see elsewhere in this issue) and stated that the Board had adopted the proposals in the Report to use the two new single bed wards immediately for maternity cases and to use the two other rooms for extra nurse's accommodation and patients' sitting room. Town Planning Scheme. A petition protesting against the Taupo Town Planning scheme was read to the meeting. The writer of the petition had been circulating it in the town and the Ratepayers' Association had been asked to support it. After a full discussion it was the unanimous decision of the meeting that no support be given the petition, as the Association approved of the Town Planning principle which would ultimately be to the benefit of Taupo as a whole. Mr Andrews, member of the Waikato Hospital Board, had expressed willingness to address a meeting of ratepayers and others interested, if it were considered desirable, to support and assist the work of the recently formed Taupo Committee of the Blood Transfusion service, in which members of the St. John Ambulance Association had taken a prominent part. He would also answer questions regarding Hospital Board matters. It was the general opinion that the provision of accommodation for key members of the Borough Council staff was inevitable and essential, but for the clarification of ratepayers it was decided to write the Borough Council as to whether rent would be charged for the two proposed houses. It was also decided to enquire if the Borough Council intended to provide cabin accommodation in the new Motor Camp. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks ta Mr Pearse for his hospitality.
