MRS N. M. BECKETT
Mrs N. M. Beckett, of Tihoi, died recently at Tapu, near Thames, and will be missed by a wide circle of friends in and around Taupo and Putaruru districts. Born in Nelson, Mrs Beckett was educated at the Wellington Girls' College and married Mr R. G. Beckett in 1937, living in Gisborne and Putaruru and settiihg in Tihoi in 1941. Mrs Beckett will be remembered for her unfailing interest in the Tihoi School which was established mainly through her untiring efforts. She was secretary of the school from its ineeption and also taught for a period during the war when no regular teacher was available. Also interested in community affairs Mrs Beckett took a lead in fostering anything of benefit to the residents and especially to children. Mrs Beckett is survived by her husband and one daughter. Mr Piko Wineera The recent death of Mr Piko Wineera removed one who was well known and respected in the community. Born 54 years ago, Mi Wineera was the son of Mr Wiremu Wineera, of the Porirua district, Wellington. His mother was a daughter of Mr Rewiti Rakaherea, an early stofekeeper of Taupo. On his father's sfde Mr Wineera was descended from a sister of the famous chief Te Rauparaha, sometimes referred to as the Maori Napoleon. He was educated in the Rangitikei district and at the Maori Agricultural College, Hastings. He married Miss Rangi Tupara Maniapoto, of Nukuhau, and had resided in Taupo for over 20 years, where for some time he had been on the outdoor staff of the Taupo Town Board. Mr Wineera is survived by his wife and four sons, his eldest son, John, being on the office staff of the Ministry of iWorks Geothermal Project, Taupo,
