TAUPO BOY SCOUTS
FIRST BIRTHDAY PARTY The Taupo Boy Scout Company, under Scouter Harding, celebrated their first birthday with a party held in Rickit's Hall on Tuesday evening, August 11, when there was a good attendance of parents and friends. The evening commenced with the usual parade and inspection of patrol s. Second class badges and first year stars were then presented to the following Scouts: Peter Birnie, Peter Smith, Hendon Gillies, Keith Skeen, Pat /Dixon, Ken Christensen, Max Isaacs, Peter Donnelly, Seddon Crowther, Murray Lough, Cecil Wood, Terry Dixon. The following were presented with first year stars: Hugh Mclnally, Hawea Grey, Brian Kahia, Ian Kennedy, Ian Trethowen. Peter Birnie, leader of the Eagle Patrol, was presented with a shield, carved by the Rev. C. G. G. Salt, won by his patrol as points trophy for the year. A silver cup given by Mrs. Skeen, S^n., was won by the Fox Patrol, led by Cecil Wood, for best behaviour on and off parade during the year. - Miss E. Rickit was presented by Scouter Harding with the Scouts Thanks Badge, in appreciation of her services to the Scouts during the year. The Scouts presented Mrs T. Isaacs with a set of carvers for her work in providing the supper at the Scouts Ball. Mr J. Donnelly on behalf of the Committee, presented Mr and Mrs C. Thomas with two rhododendrons in recognition of their hospitality to the Commttee during the year. During the evening games were played by the boys and their parents and supper was served by the Scouts, for which a birthday cake had been beautifully iced by Mr Garth Marsland, decorated with the Scout Badge. Mr and Mrs J. E. Story cut the cake, and Mr Story addressed the r boys, congratulati.pgi. them on their year's work. During the evening a committee was elected for the ensuing year, members being Mr T. Isaacs, Mr and Mrs J. Donnelly, Mrs Christensen, Mr C. Thomas, Mr H. Penny, Mr C. H. Stokes, Mr J. G.Dixon. The treasurer's report showed that the Scout Hut was paid for, and was insured for £125, while there was a credit balance in the bank of approximately £23.
