About The Taupo Times
SINCE the first issue on January 16, 1952, the Taupo Times has been printed by The Waikato Independent Ltd., of Cambridge, and it is with regret that we announce that this arrangement comes to an end with this issue of the Times. Relations between the two companies have been happy, marked by cordial co-opera-tion, a fact which made the job of establishing Taupo's first paper less diffieult than might otherwise have been the case. Increasing pressure of work, with its attendant difficulties, is alone the reason for the Independent's decision thus to curtail its outside eommitments. In severing our relations we thank all members of the Independent's staff for their cheerful service. Commencing next week the Times willbe printed by The Te Aroha News Printing and Publishing Co., Ltd., of Te Aroha. Instead of being pubiished on the Wednesday oi eaen week, as hitherto, the Times will in future be published on Fridays, so .that our next issue will bear the date of Friday, September 4. This change of publication day will enable week-end events to be reported in the following week's issue, which has not usually been possible. It is felt that on the whole this change will be advantageous. When the Times commenced publication an appeal was made to the secretaries and committees of local clubs and organisations to supply reports of their meetings or other activities, and the Times has appreciated the response made. In this connection, we would stress the fact i that such reports are always wel-
comed, for they enable us to widen our news coverage, but we would like to hint, as politely as possible, that the earlier these reports are handed in the warmer our welcome is. It is necessary to send our news copy to our printers, not in one lot at the end of the week, but in small lots each day. While we will always ao our utmost to use news items, or to insert advertisements, they may unavoidably be late. We would emphasise that it is a great help to have reports of local events at the earliest possible moment, and that the same applies also to advertising matter. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Taupo Times Company for the business extended to us since the commencement of the Times in January, 1952. We endorse the statements made in the foregoing that our resignation of the Times Company's printers, is entirely due to the increasing pressure of home district requirements, and particularly as associated with our own paper —The Waikato Independent. We would like to offer our sincere thanks, firstly to Mr G. A. Acres, the manager, for the unfailing courtesy to our company and staff and secondly to Mr McKinnon, the provisional Editor and latterly to his successor Mr R. H. Ward, for their co-operation in the printing and publication of The Times. May we offer the wish that The Times will — like so many other country Journals, long continue to help promote and support the development of Taupo District and the increased welfare of its community.
