CONTROLLING PAIN

USE OF SUPERSONICS Dr Peter Lindstrom, chief neurosurgeon at the U.S. Veterans Hospital in Aspinall, Pennsylvania, is conducting research into a method of controlling pain with supersonics. Ultra high frequency sound waves are used to destroy "pain pathways" in the brain without the need of actual cutting of the brain, spokesman for Dr Lindstrom said in describing the experiments. Dr Lindstrom has b^en invited to give a paper on the subject before the Scandinavian Neurosurgical Society in Helsinki August 29 to 30.
