THAT TELEPHONE DIRECTORY

Sir, Can you tell me when the Taupo telephone directory will be brought up to date ? It was obsolete and also many numbers in it were not connected up and many of the numbers that were connected up were wrong in the book. I believe this was due to the many new subscribers and to the doing away with many party lines and substituting singie lines. But it is months now since the book came out and people still get wrong numbers from the book while others are not in it at all, and the Department has done nothing to remedy the confusion. No doubt this is not the fault of the local Post Office people who are not responsible for printing the telephone books, but surely the Department could produce a typed list and stencil it for every subscriber, and add a supplement now and then until it is time for the new printed list. The present list is most unsatisfactory and surely a private business firm would have got out a corrected list as I suggest long ago. I think you had a letter some time ago which made this suggestion. Perhaps the Businessmen's Association or the Ratepayer's Association could urge this to the Post and Telegraph Department, or even the Town Board might bring it to their notice. And what about the continuous telephone service which seems to have died a natural death? I am, etc., Tauno, 13/8/53.
