DRAMA SOCIETY SUPPER

Col. J. E. Barton made presentations to the three producers on behalf of the various mefnbens of the casts of the three one-act plays at the conclusion of the final performance on Friday night The players and others assisting in the production were the guests of the committee at supper when this ceremony was performed. The members of the three casts also combined to make a special presentation to Mr Charles Leslie, who had carried out a prodigious job of work in the stage settings. Other presentations from the casts were made to Mrs J. D. Swan and Mrs Mclnally. Speakers made special mention of the latter's wonderful interpretation of her role as the "Old Lady," Mrs Dowey. She was making her first stage appearance at an age when she can claim no less than 50 grandchildren and several greatgrandchildren. After the presentation Col. Barton congratulated the Society upon the progress which it had made during the first year of its existence. He expressed appreciation of the work of the producers, and especially of Charles Leslie, who had been a tower of strength to the Society, and of J. D. Swan, who was responsible for the foundation of the Society. He also pointed out that the production just concluded was the last before the Annual Meeting in September next, and he appealed to members to keep their interest in the Society alive by attending that meeting when the committee for the ensuing year will be elected. A special vote of thanks was due to Mesdames Grace Booth and Iris Taylor for providing the supper. Mr J. D. Swan made an announcement concerning the final of the North Island competitions for the British Drama League, which are to be held at Rotorua tonight (Wednesday, 19th), and arrangements were later made for two or three car-loads of members to visit Rotorua to study the criticisms of the judges.
