MAJESTIC THEATRE
Tonightr's (Wednesday, August 12), picture at the Majestic is "The Great Jewel Robber," a fast-moving melodrama starring Marjorie Reynolds and David Brian. "When the Redskins Rode," to be seen on Friday, August 14, is a tale of valour and vengeance set in America colonial times, when British, French and Indians battled for possession of the continent. Filmed in supercinecolor, it stars Jon Hall and Mary Castle. The big picture for Saturday, both matinee and evening, is the South Seas Technicolor musical "Pagan Love Song," with Esther Williams and Howard Keel in the star roles. The latter made his film debut as the hero of "Annie Get Your Gun," and is at his best in such numbers as "The House of Singing Bamboo," "Why is Love so Crazy," and the picture' s title song. Esther Williams joins him in "Singing in the Sun" and has a solo number in the iovely "Sea of the Moon." Delightful native dancing sequences and arresting swimming scenes in glowingly beautiful tropic settings make this a delightful entertainment. "Driftwood," to be screened on Monday next, is a western with a difference, the plot woyen round a little girl found wandering in the desert with a dog she had rescued from an airplane crash. On Wednesday, August 19, Joseph Conrad's famous story, "Outcast of the Islands," comes to the screen, produced for London Films by Carol Reed. of "The Third Man" fame. The leading parts are taken by Ralph Richardson, Trevor Howard, Robert Morley, Wendy Hiller, and a newcomer to films, the smouldering Algerian beauty Kerima. An exciting picture, acted by a talented cast.
