M A'TTERS BEFORE MEETING Lccal Body Housing. — A t the Town Board meeting last week the matter of housing for exe- ; cutive memhers of the Board's staff , was discussed, in Ihe light of future ! developments and difficulties exper- ' fienced today owing to tbe general ; housing shcirtage. it was decided ,as a pr.eliminary step to communicate with the Housing Department, and ! sobtain information as to the specifiea- 1 tions of the experimental State Houses at present being- built in eaeh of the main centires. ★ Crradwell V. Town Board. — A letter was received firom the Town Board's solicitors with regard t© the Court aetion commenced by Mr ; F. H. Gradwell against the Town j Board. Mr Giradwell is claiming the sixm of £650, alleging that his property has been injuri.ously affected hj the erection of the Board's transmission line from the Hinemaiai Hydro-eleetric Powetr Station to the town. The line passes along the boundary line between the Potts F state and the Gradwell E state. ★ Wharewaka Camping Ground.-— A letter from the Commissioner of Crown Lands, Hamilton, enquired What pffoportion of the cost of foronation of an access road to the proposed Wharewaka Camping Ground Domain the Board was prepared to pay. It was decided to reply that the Board would pay one quarter of the estitnated expense, the same to he paid, as suggested previously by the Commissioner, when the proposed Domain became revenue producing. ★ Contracts. — ■ Tenders w,ere received for the clearing of trees and stumps from the northern portion of the Reereation Ground adjoining Tongariro Street. The tender of Messrs J. 8. Burrows Btd., was accepted, the amount being £195. A building contract between The Board and Mr J. D. McLeod was received for signature on behalf of the Board, in connection with the Mortuary, for whieh Mr McLeod' s tender of £662 10/- was recently accepted. ★ Building Permits. — An application for a. building permit for the erection oi a commercial garage was ireceived from Messrs J. "D. and D. R. McLeod, builders. The garage was to be built for Messrs R„ McLeod and E. Gradwell in Heuheu Street, on Lot No. 9^ whieh adjoins Mr M. L. Svensen's office. The application was declined, the proposed site being in the shopping area under the town planning scheme. A ireport from the Building Inspector was received regarding the construction of a building in Tonga Street without a building permit. The Town Clerk was instructed to institute legal proceedings. ★ Fire Siren. — A report was received from Mr Bloyed Mandeno in connection with the Town Board's fire siren, outlining details with regard to the provision of fiire alarm eall points, the wiring of the Fire Brigade Station and reiafed matter s. It was decided to go into these matters when Mr Mandeno visited Taupo shortly. ★ Building Inspector 's Report. — The Building Inspector's Report for the month ended July 15th. showed that plans and specifications for buildings had been approved to a value of £19,440, made up of seven, Tesidences, two commercial buildings, three garages, three additions, two alterations, one engine shed. During the month twenty-two inspections had been earried out.
