CONTEST NOW. IX PROGRESS The International Air Race to be 1 run in October from England to New Zealand, is a spectacular milestone in world aviation history. It is an event of universal interest. Already, it has brought this country important publicity in many overseas journals and at the time of the race, the eyes of the whole world will be focussed on New Zealand. The International Air Race is an affair of national import. The benefits that may accrue as a restilt of it are incalculable and every New Zealander writh the interests of his country at heart should wish to see it carried off as an unqualified success. It will be realised that ;in undertaking the conduct of an event of such magnitude, New Zealand's Air Race Council has assumed a tremendous task and a heavy fmancial responsibiiity. The sum required foi prize moneys, administration and other costs of the race is £55,000. L 1 "■ -1' t | _ - in progress. | The enticing prize in this contest will be the coveted position of Air Hostess with Tasman Empire Airways Ltd. The winner will also receive a 3election of clothing valued at £100 and, as "The Queen of the Air Race/ ■will be a special guest at the fmish of 'the great race. There will be 2nd and 3rd prizes of clothing valued at £75 and £50 respectively. j The simplicity of the contest should add further to its appeal. There are no votes to garner or funds to raise, the only financial obligation being the eandidate's entry fee of ten guineas, which must be paid by herself or by any organisation sponsoring her. Any young lady between the ages of 21' and 27 having a good secondary education is eligible to enter. Belection will be in three stages — by town; b y provinces, and finally for the national vinner. All provincial finalists at- ! tending the final judging in Christ- : church — among whom, of course, will be the three future winners — will have ; their expenses paid by the Air Race , Council. The contest was launched by Mr R,. M. McFarlane, M.P., Mayor of Christchurch, who appealed to the 133 other Mayors throughout New Zealand for their co-operation and assistance in setting up committees for the ? competition 's local conduct.
