The official service commemorating the Coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was held at the Town Board Buildings, Taupo, at 11 a.m., on June 2nd., Coronation Day. Mr J. E. Story, Town Board Chairman, presided. The Rev. C. G. G. Salt gave the address, prayers and lessons being read by The Rev. W. H. Nicholas and the Rev. A. J. E. Grange. In addition to a representative gathering of citizens, the following organisations paraded under Col J. D. Swan, O.B.E.—R.S.A. members and other exservicemen and women; St. John Ambulance Brigade, with Cadets and Nursing Division; Boy Scouts; Girl Guides; Girls' Life Brigade.
