Works Committee Report. During June widening of Gillies Avenue, fiorn Oarke's subdivision to Taharepa Road, and of the adjoining roads, had been carried out stated the Works Committee's report to the Town Board meeting last weeek. Visibility had been improved on the corn■«srs of Beuheu Street and Kaimanawa Street; Roberts Street and Kaimanawa Street; and Roberts Strtee't and Elfie Range Road. Stormwater culverts had been placed across Roberts and Ruapehu Streets near Kilford's Stoi'e. Wooden fi ames covered with wire netting had been placed round trees recently planted on the Lake front. The oid barbery/ hedge in front of the Town Board Ofiices had been removed, also the fence from the IWomen's Rest Room to the Children's Piaying Area. All low hanging branch.es in the Domain have been cut b&ck. ★ BniMing Xnspeetor's Report. Reportmg to the Taupo Town Board' s monthly meeting the Buildings Inspector, Mr G. M. Crickett, stated that during the month. ending June 17th, eighteen sets of plans and specifications had been examined and approved, involving the sum of £20,154:, Residences aecounted for 10 of ihe items, garages 3, woodsheds 1, .and additions 4„ The residence values "varied from £800 to £3500, and the plans showed an improvement in the atandard oi buildings to be erected. During the month, twenty-four in^pections had been carried out on buildings under constiUction. ★ First Aid Examixiations. Amongthose who passed the recent First Aid examinations under1 the au-.-gpices of the St. John Ambulance As--Sociation were Messrs R. How and .J, W. Rofeertsbn. ■ Mr How's name was inadvertently omitted from our report of the examination results in last week's issue, and Mr Robertname was mis-spelt, Mr A. Kennedy, District Superintendent, was referred to as secretary, where as the secretary of the Association is Miss A« Wehringo. Ar First Debutantes BalL The Debutantes Ball to be held under the auspices of the Taupo Women's Bbwling Club on Friday next, at 8 p.m., in Rickit's Hall, appears to be rousing no litt-le interest. Planned as the first Annual Ball of the Club, it will be also the first occasion on which ra debutantes* ball has been held in Taupo. The Club's Ball, Committee have arrangements well in hand. Music is to be provided by Mika's Melody Makers. ★ 'Big Power Station Valve. The big six ton valve which is to admit water to the main turbine at the Hinemaiai Power Station arrived in Taupo on Wednesday last week and was delivered next morning at the station. With the arrival of the valve, which was delayed owing to the first casting having proved defective, all the equipment for the station is now on hand. Ar Eecreation Ground Improvement. The Works Committee's report for the month ended June 17th stated that tenders were being called for' removal of pine trees and stumps from the north end of the foctball field, and the Committee recommended to the Town Board that this area be fenced, ploughed and sown in grass so as to improve and enlarge the recreation domain. ★ Town Board Foreman. 'Seven applications for the position of working foreman were received at last week's meeting of the Taupo Town Board. That of Mr Gordon W. Ames was accepted. Mr Ames was for five years foreman for the Hastings Borough Council.
