TOWN BOARD BUSINESS
ORDINARY MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Taupo Town Board was held on Wednesday last, the Chairman, Mr J. E. Story, presiding over a full attendance of members. The meeting commenced at 7.30 p.m. and ended at 12.50 a.m. Mr W. G. Morris asked the Chairman's 1 permission to refeir to a Notiee of Motion he had' g"iven at the previous meeting, that the Board should hold its ordinary meetings fortnightly instead of once a month, in order that the business could be disposed of without the necessliy of ordinary meetings being unduly prolonged, and so that it would not be necessary to hold so many special meetings^. Mr Morris said that having discussed the matter with other members, he wished 'to withdraw his Notiee of Motion, as thejre were only four more monthly meetings in the present Board 's term of office and the matter could well be left to the incoming Board. Permission as asked was granted. ServicemeiPs Graves. The Taupo R.S.A., wrote asking the Board to set aside an area in the Cemetery for a Servicemen's Lawn cemetery, puirsuant to the practice elseWhere and in line with the recomniemlations of the Imperial War Graves Commission. A committee was appointed to confer with the R.S.A., the members being Miss K. O. Lewis and Messirs Irvine and Vedder, \the Board being in sympathy with the idea. The Taupo Ratepayers Association wrote with regard to reticulation matters, stating that a menTer of the Association, whose premis.es were between other premises that had been connected, had been informed by the Inspector that he could not yet be connected. The Association asked for information as to the plan of reticulation generaliy, and said they would like to meet the Board to discuss it. It •was commented by members that the matter of reticulation in genejral had already been covered by reports in, the Taupo Tirnes. The Town Cierk said that he had written to the Association under date June 8th., asking tfor the name of the owner of the particular premises referred to in the letter, to enable the Board to go into the matter, but that no reply had been received from the Association. The lett-er was received. High Price of Section. Messrs Goodsons Ltd., Rotorua, wrote in reference to Sec. 14, Block XIV. Taupo Town, owned by them, and recalled discussions that had been field by their representative with the Chairman of the Board. They stated that if the Board eared to make an offer of £2,000 for the section the Company would be prepared to consider it. The section, a quartea* acre, is opposite the Taupo District High School, on the corner of Ruapehu and Horomatangi Streets. In discussion a member considered the price mentioned to be exorbitant. The Town Clerk was instructed to reply that the Board consid.ered the amount suggested to be excessive. The Chairman of the Library Committee, Mr N. A. Duthie, wrote stating that the Committee wished to have the Library open fcr a period on Saturdays, and asking that an independent outside door to the Library he provided, as the Town Board Offic-es, giving access to the Library, were elosed on Saturdays. The Library would be staffed on that day by the Committee. The Board decided to grant the request. It was also decided, on the Library Committee's recommendation , to offer, the books in ihe Children^ Section of the Library
to the Taupo School Library. The Library Committee's report stated that it had been decided to purchase 100 books as soon as possible, and thereafter ten books per month. A letter was receivel Irom Mr N. Blennerhassett, referring to earlier enquiries as to the leasing by him of the proposed Taupo District War Memorial Hall, stating that he wished to make application for a license to show cinematograph pictures. It was decided to inform Mr Blennerhassett that the Board did not intend to lease the Hall, when completed, to any permanent tenant.
