Spa Road Shops. — A letter from Messrs Patience and Gabites, the Taupo Town Board's town planning consultants, read at the Board's recent meeting, stated that if th.e Board^ policy to group subur- ■ ban shops in appo'opriate locations was to be followed, as provided for in the Town Plan, then the Spa Road shopping centre shown on the plan, at the Pihanga Street junction, was preferahle to the situation for which Mr J. M. Stanley had irequested a shop building permit. After discussion the Board d.ecided to adhere to the Plan, and to notify Mr Stanley that his application could not be granted. A similaa^ application by Mr G. R. Sibley in respect of the Spa Road - Tonga Street corner was also refused. ★ Grant to Auckland Museum. — An application for a grant to the Auckland War Memorial Museum was before the Board. Mr Irvine said he would not agree to a grant, as his previously stated opinion was that they were not there to give the ratepayei^s' money away. Mr Yedder said the Museum was a national affair, benefiting the whole eountry, and to support it was not to give the money away. The Board made a grant of £5, as was done last .year, Mr Iirvine asking that his vote be rtecorded as being against the resolution. ★ Geothermal Project Houses. — The Engineer-in-Charge, M.O.W. Geothermal Power Project, Mr Fooks? wrote advisihg th,e Boaad that five staff houses were to be erected on the Tamamutu Street site. These would be similar to that being erected near the Dam, and would be approximatelv 1000 square feet each. ★ Request from Women's Institute. — A request from the Gardening Circle of the Taupo Womenrs Institute, for allocation of a site on which they could plant s.everal shrubs and trees, was granted. It was decided to offer ground for the purpose near the Women's Rest Room, Tongariro Street. ★' Mortuary Tender Accep ted. — The Town Board has accepted the tender of Mr J. D. McLeod for the erection of the Mcrtuary, which is to be built at the Cemetery. Plans and specifications were prepared by the Waikato Hospital Board's arcbitect. The amount of the tender was £662 10/-. ★ Hawker's License Refused. — The Board decided not to grant a hawk.er's license applied for by Mr W. J. Johnston. Applicant bad stated that he wished to visit Taupo on one day in each four weeks, not to solicit new business, but to visit old customers resident in Taupo. ★ Gallagher Block Premises. — Mr G. F. Tabernacle applied to the Town Board to have the roadside fronting his two business sites in the Gallagher Block, Tuwharetoa Street, levelled to the permanenx footpath level. The application was granted. ★ Building Permit Prosecutions. — The Town CXerk was instructed to advise the Board's solicitor to take proceedings immediately against several property owners fcr erecting buildings without obtaining permits.
