McConachy "Cleans the Table/, Clark McConachy, the world famous billiardist who recently played at Taupo, "cleaned the table" in a snookmatch at Taumarunui on June 10|-h, scoring 129 points, reports the Tauraaiuni Pr'ess. Mr Ron Robinson broke the balls but left nothing, and McConachy failed to score from his first visit to the table. Robinson had one more shot, whieh failed to go down, and that was his last. McConachy then proceeded to make his great break of 129, sinking 15 reds and 15 colours, and as the black went down for the last time with the table clean and bafe, there was a spontaneous burst of applause from the almost incredulous audience. ★ Proposed Badminton Club. — A meeting is to be held in Rickitfs Hall, tomorrow evening, Thursday, June 18th., to discuss the formation of a Badminton Club in Taupo. The conveners ar,e Messrs F. F. Abey and J. Gale, who believe that in view of the incireasing interest in the game in the Waikato its introduction here would be welcomed by many. It is hoped to have equipment on hand so that some play may be enjoyed following the meeting. ★ First Aid Exams. Mr Ai. Kennedy, secretary of the St. John Ambulance Association, advises that the following members of the Brigade have been successful in passing examination for first aid certificates as follows: M? R. Lang, initial examination; Messrs J. W. Robinson and L, E. Reid, annual re-examina~ tion. ★ The Red Badge of Courage. — The film "The Red Badge of Courage," based on the famous novel of the iStame name by tStephen Crane, j whieh is to be shown in Taupo tonight, Wednesday, June 17th., was the subjecfc of an interesting half-page article in the New Zealand Koraki of Saturday last, June 18th.
