HIGH SCHOOL AFFAIRS
Monthly Committee Meeting The monthly meeting of the Taupo District Hig*h School Committee was hel on Wednesday, June 3rd, when there were present: Mr W. L. Haines, chairman, Mrs V. S. Pearce, Miss K. O. Lewis, Messrs W. J, Murray, seccretary, W. L. Fulljames, A. Kennedy, C. E. Baker and J, Robertsbn. Tenders were received for the conversioh of School radio equipment to use 230 volts A.C. power instead of batteries, the successful tenderei- being the Radio Service Co, The purchase of 16 dozen mugs for the school milk service was authorised. Frivolity MinstrelV Visit Correspondence frvom the Frivolity Minstrels. of Napier, confirmed ar~ rangements for their annual visit to Taupo be made as usual on the Saturday of Labour Day week-end, October 24th. The well known Hawkes Bay organisation has visited Taupo annually for many years past and has generously given the proceeeds of its entertainments to the School Committee for the benefit of the TaupoSchool. Headmaster's Report The Headmaster, Mr J. R. Osborne, in his report, stated that stoves had now been installed in the new block and were functioning very satisfactorily. Apart fr-om final painting the window seat in the staff room had been completed. Tenders had been called by the South Auckland Edueacation Commission for the a Second* ary block of three classrooms, and were due to close on June 10th. Mr Osborne said he understood that this block was to have central heating^ and that a high pressure water system, was to be provided, which would also supply the S'enior Secondary Assistant's residence. Water would be ©btained from a bore and there would be an automatic pressure tank.operated from the Town Board's electrical mains; : Mr Osborne suggested that the main gates of the Schoei should be painted. Tlie Education Commission had recently supplied a fine aPray of tools for Primary woocb work, which would also be used by the Secondary boys. This work would involve the Committee in certain small expenses from time to time, being chiefly the cost of materials for small jobs foi' the school itself by the boys. The Home and School Assoeiation had kindly lent the sum of £10 toward the cost of an electric waterheating urn for the staff room. The Primary School roll stood at 356, and the Secondary at 51.
