TRAFFIC SPEED LIMIT
REQUEST TO TOWN BOARD A request to the Town Board to have the thirty miles per hour speed limit boundary shifted fifty-two chains south along the TaupoTurangi Highway from the present boundary point, was made in a letter which came before the Taupo Town Board on May 20. Signed by Mr S. Kitson and other residents of the area south of Edgewater, the letter referred to the fact that the road was already in a "built up' area, and to the increasing danger from speeding -traffic. The present boundary notice was on the Taupo side of the Terijices Hill turn-off. The letter stated that the Mmistry of Works had advised the writers to approach the Town Board, although the area was outside the Town District, and that any request from the Board would then be examined by the Transport Department and the Ministry of Works. The Chairman, Mr J. Story; stated that following a letter on the matter from Mr W. L. Haines some time ago, the Senior Traffic Inspector had been interviewed and the Automobile Association's representative. Their view was that, while shifting the 30 mile limit south, it was desirable, it x would not remove the danger unless the road were also widened. Members expressed the view that widening of the road was necessary and that the danger at the Napier Road junction with the Lake Front road was further complicated by the parking problem there, It was deeided to inform the writers that the Board supported their request and to l%ecommend them to approach the Ministry of Works with regard to the widening of the road.
