The top picture above shows a new pipe and control valve being lowered from a mobile crane to be fitted over the ten inch pipe of the deepest Wairakei bore yet drilled. The lower picture shows a later stage in the Job, with the new pipe successfully over the original one and steam pouring through it. The original valve controlling the bore could not be fully closed.
