SMITH SHIELD GOLF
TAUPO LEADS TOKOROA The first days play for the Smith Shield took place on Sunday, May 10th., when the Tokoroa Golf Club's team visited * Taupo to play Taupo Club. The day ended with Taupo 26, Tokoroa 6, and three games drawn. The Taupo players had the advantage of playing on their home course, but their substantial lead should give them a good chance of winning the Shield, when the return half of the match is played at Tokoroa in September. Detailed results are as follows, with the names of Taupo players given first in each ease. Men's Games. Men's singles : — Graham all square with Whinery; Rameka all square with Cornes; Brown lost to Cameron; E. Smith defeated Smith; A. Smith defeated Uden; Young lost to Bullot; Wilson defeated Ward; Miles defeated Reed; D. Neame defeated Chambers; Collett defeated Hawthorne; S. Neame defeated Kabold; Woodward defeated Kirkman. Men's doubles: — Graham and Rameka lost to Whinerey and Cornes; Drown and E. Smith lost to Car^-ron and Smith; A. Smith and Young all square with Uden and Bullot; Wilson and Miles defeated Ward and Reed; D. Neame and Collett defeated Chambers and Hawthorne; S. Neame and Woodward defeated Kabold and Kirkman. Ladies* Games.
Ladies' Singles: — Miss Branson defeated Mrs Kirkman; Mrs Hullten defeated Mrs Boone; Mrs Douglas defeated Mrs Smiffi; Mrs Colbeck defeated Mrs Rugg ; Mrs Vedder defeated Mrs Reed; Mrs Young defeated Mrs Bullot; Ladies' Doubles: Miss Branson and Mrs Hullten defeated Mrs Kirkman and Mrs Boone; Mrs Douglas and Mrs Colbeck* defeated Mrs Smith and Mrs Rugg; Mrs Vedder and Mrs Young defeated Mrs Reed and Mrs Bullot. On Sunday next, May 24th., the Patron's Trophy will be played for, a mixed four ball, mateh play. A special general meeting of the Taupo Golf Club is to be held at the Club House on Tuesday next, May 26th., at 7.45 p.m., the business being the adoption of the revised eonstitution, and general. This foilows a resolution, adopted at the Club's Annual Meeting on February 20th., that the incoming Committee revise the Constitution and call a special general meeting to consider any suggested, changes.
