BOWLING SEASON ENDS
SUCCESSFUL GALA DAY While there are one or two matches to be fmalised, the Taupo Bowling Club held a Gala Day on Sunday, April 26, to mark the official ending of a most successful season. A progressive fours competition was held, and results were as follows: Baldwin, 3 wins, 1 loss; C. McLean, 3 wins, 1 loss; J. Pennycook, 3 wins, 1 loss; Ted Taylor, 3 wins, 1 loss; E. H. Rowlands, 2 wins, 2 losses; B. Armstrong, 2 wins, 2 losses; P. Gardiner (Helensville Bowling Club), 1 win, 3 losses; R. McMillan, 1 win, 3 losses; L. Fulljames, 1 win, 3 losses; Gordon Fraser, 1 win, 3 losses. In the playoff Pennycook defeated C. McLean, and Ted Taylor defeated Baldwin. In the final game between Taylor and Pennycook, Taylor's team was skipped by Mrs J. Stanley, and amidst great excitement drew the winning shot and won the final. The game was played in the dark and one of the club members brought out a benzine lantern to show where the jack was. The winning team comprised Mrs J. Stanley, skip, Ted Taylor, H. Waterhouse, Mrs H. Lough. The wmners were presented with the Cockburn Trophy, and also received small personal trophies. Championship Results
The Senior Championship Singles was won by Mr R. McMillan, and the Junior Championship by Mr E. H. ( 44 Jack") Rowlands, the final match being between Rowlands and Stanley. . . , During the afternoon tea, supplied by the Women's Club members, the popular president, Mr Ben Armstrong, thanked all those who had helped the club during the season, and expressed the good wishes of all to Mr Harry Waterhouse, who is shortly to leave Taupo on transfer to Blenheim. In replying, Mr Waterhouse thanked the president for the good wishes expressed, and went on to urge on all members the need to do their utmost to help the club along, and not to leave it all to a few. Staunch Supporters In connection with the club s pavilion, the club is greatly indebted to Messrs A. Coley, L. Fulljames and J. Attwood, who have given services and material for the buildmg, and their staunch support has been mucn appreciated. Mr Coley is a present lining the building with pinex. Devoted service has been given by Mr J Pennycook (affectionately known as "Pop"), whose constant care as grounds superintendent has been a major factor in keeping the ground in its present order. There is no doubt. too, that the club has been fortunate in having as president, Mr Ben Armstrong, whose enthusiasm and hard work have been unremitting.
