GUIDES' BIRTHDAY PARTY
At the recent Birthday Batty and concert in Rickit's Hall, held to mark the first birthday of the Taupo Girl Guide Company, the Waikato Section of the N.Z. Girl Guides' jigsaw puzzle, which is to be presented to the two Royal Children, was formally presented to Joy Kennedy and Lyn Bull, as Queen's Messengeirs to take it to Putaruru. It had been brought from Rotorua by Keren Reid and Beth Snooks. It was later handed over by the Taupo girls to the Mangakino Guides at a ceremony on the Post Office steps at Putaruru. An important featuire of the birthday party and concert was the presentation by Mrs Shepherd, chairman of the Local Association, of prizes won during the year, as follows: Swan Cup for most improved Guide, Keren Reid; Company Shield fctr best patrol, the Fuchsia Patrol, leader Beth Snooks; Wilson Cup, for best Junior Guide, K. Donnelly; Captain's Prize for Guide who showed most Fortitude, Joy Kennedy; Prize for Guide observing the 8th Law (Helping Others), Maadi Hough; Prize for Best Trieir, Emma Riwa; Most Unselfish Guide, Colleen Erickson; Button presented by Waterhouse family for senior Guide who had done the best badge work, Beth Snooks; Button presented by Goodger family, juniors, Lynn Bull. A writing compendium was presented by the Company and offieers to Mrs Peart, for her untiring work during the year as Captain. Mrs Peart is retking from the captaincy, on her appointment as District Commissioner, and Mrs Snooks becomes Captain.
