MEETING OF HOUSEHOLDERS
School Committee Election The annual meeting of householdexs to elect a new Committee for the j Taupo District High School was held j in the School on Wednesday night of iast week at 7.30 p.m., when there was an attendance of thirty-seven. I Mr B. J. Baumberg, Chairman of ! the Committee, presided and opened the proceedings with a l'eport of the work of the outgoing Committee. Additions To Buildings Mr Baumberg stated that when the Committee assumed offiee there wero five classrooms with an Infant Room under construction, which was compieted during 1950, and the following year the new staff room, office and Mbrary were compieted. In 1952 a new block of four rooms was built, so that the number of classrooms had doubled, from five to ten. Even so, said Mr Baumberg, the school was at present using the Presbyterian Sunday School Eiall as an extra ciassroom. The Committee at present were negotiating for the building of a further block of four rooms on the block of four acres between Btr West's residence and Kaimanawa Street. Following protracted negotiations the Committee had succeeded in having a fco'use ereeted for the Senior Secondary Assistant and this was now compieted and in occupation. Further Land Secured. As the present school site was quite inadequate in view of the growtli of the school the Committee had been active in the acquiiring of further land. The four acre block already mentioned had been acquired, and a* five acre block north of the Spa Road, opposite the Hospital and fronting Huka Street, had been bought from Mr W. King. A further ten acres on Huka Street was being negotiated for. It was anticipated that ultimately the new High School would be built on the Huka Street property. The Committee had pressed for the establishment of a Maimai Training Block and it was expected that this would not be long delayed.
Growth Of Secondary DepL The Secondary Dept which was established in 1951 with 20 pupils had now a roll of 52 and was entitled to three secondary teachers. The Chairman paid a tribute to the Home and School Association, which had continued its active support of the ( School Committee, which was much appreciated by the Committee. The Association had made very generous donations to the School, including £125 for the Library and £20 for summer sports gear. In concludmg Mtr Baumberg thanked Committee Members and the School Staif for their keen support and loyal work for the school, and parents and citizens who had so readiiy assisted the school. He also thanked the Taupo Times for its reports of school funetions.
New Committee Members Following the adoption of the outgoing Chairman' s repoi't, the election of the new Committee was held, Mr Baumberg, who had vacated the chair and announced that he was retking from the Committee being voted to the chair for this part of the proceedings. Messrs A. E. Morse and It. H. Ward were elected scrutineers. The following were elected to the Committee: Messirs C. E. Baker, T. Burt, W. L. Fulljames, W. L. Haines, A. Kennedy, Miss K. O. Lewis, Mr W. J. Murray, Mrs J. Pearce, Mr J. W. Robertson. At a meeting of the new Committee held following the election, Mr W. L. Haines was elected Chairman; Mr W. J. Murray, Secretary; and Mr T. Burt, Treasurer.
