DRAMATIC SOCIETY

THREE PLAYS KEAD Three readings were again presented at the Taupo Dramatic Society 's play reading last Wednesday. The first play although rehearsed only at very short notice was a very well handled little eomedy entitled "Between the Soup and the Savouries." It brought together again three of the cast of "Blithe Spirit/* Duicie Cohen as Maria, the cook ; Sally Kent as Emily, the kitchen maid; and Shirley Laughton, as the« parlourmaid, Ada. The scene was set in a Londoii kitcheix, with the kitchenniaid being teased over a supposed love affair and the parlourmaid bringing from her master's table scraps of information about the life upstaiis„ In an impromptu reading of Ryland Pertwee's ^Evening Dress Intiispensable" paris were taken by Beryl Kennedy. Margaret Beale, Duicie Cohen, Tom Curham and Bob Acres. The third play, uThe Life .aud Soul of the Party," was presenteci by the same cast as the above with the addition of Micky Colbeck and Betty Lewis. Unfortunately the characterisation of the voices in this play resulted in many of the worcls being lost in the depths of the hall. Duicie Cohen as Mrs Ogsbody, and Sally Kent as her daughter Ede pr«>vided a lively beginning to this playEdeys friends who she had invitedi to a party to meet her boy friend, who never turned up, were Mrs Minnifer —Micky Colbeck, Mrs Nosworthy— Shirley Laughton, and; Mrs Todgers —Betty Lewis. Difficulfy was experienced by the society in getting copies of plays sent from Wellington for these readings, and the society owes a debt to. cf gratitude to Mrs Peacocke for the loan of copies of suitabte sketches,, and also to Mrs Sally Kent who spent long hours in typing out ihe script of the two main plays for last week's reading. The next reading cf the society wrill take plaee cm Thursday, April 22nd.
