C.A.S. MEETING
Entertainments To Come At the March meeting of the Taupo C.A.S. Committee the resignation oi the foundation Chairman, Major F. Lowery, was received and was accepted with regret. Mr E. F. Wright was appointedr Cnaiirman. The resignation of Mr N. Lowe was also aceepted with regret. Messrs Hedley Gibson and Charies Leslie were appointed to membership of ihe Conim jttee. Flans for the forthcoming season were discussed and it wras decided to accept all programmes offered by the Community Arts Service. The first event will be a violin and piano recital, on May 21st, by Mauiiee Clare and Frederick Page. Maurice Clare is visiting New Zealand as soloist with the National Symphony Orchestra, and is world famous as leader for many years ' of the Boyd Neel' Orchestra. He will be tremembered especially for his iine contribution to the Centennial Musical Celebrations in 1940. Frederick Page, lecturer in Music at Victoria University College, is well known as a pianist, both as a frequent broadcaster and as a soloist and conceirt player. Following Somerset Maughani s i>rilliant play "The Circle" there will be the very hilarious opera "La Serva Padrona," or "The Servant is Mistress." This is the famous first ^>mic opera and it is noted for its beautiful music. The C.A.S. Quafftet will provide the accompaniment, and in addition a musical programme with Layton Ring playing on recorder and harpsicord.
