TOWN BOARD MEETING
A.C. BATHS RECONSTRU CTION There was a full attendance of memhers for the monthly meeting of the Town Board on Wednesday evening last, with Mr J. E. Story, Ghairman, presiding. A formal confirmatory resolution was passed in connection with ihe special rate of one farthing in the pound on the unimproved value as security for the A. C. Baths Reeonstruction Loan 1953. It may be pointed out that this resolution is necessary as4 providing security for the loan, but it is not anticipated by the Board that such a rate will be struck as it is expected that revenue from the Bath will be sufficient to meet the loan eharges. A letter from the Taupo BusinessmeiTs Association stated that Association membei*s were prepared to pay 2/6 per business for weekly rubbish removals and forwarded draft agreement to that effect to be signed by such members. This arrangement is expected to cover some forty businesses, and is an interim arrangement until such time as the whole matter is considered in connection with rating for the ensuing financial year. A letter from the State HydroElectric Department forwarded a copy of Proclamation andl plan of the Geothermal Steam Area, issued under recent legislation governing boring for steam. The proclaimed area includes the Town District, and a considerable area to the northwest and north. Building Without Per m its. There v/as a discussion of the matter of building permits and the fact that a number of building*s were being erected for ^vhich permits had not been obtained. It was pointed out that the Board had advertised in July last that immediate prosecution would follow without further notice' if building was done without a permit. It was resolved that legal action in accordanee with the Board 's advertisement be taken forthwith. It was also resolved that the Building Inspector report to each meeting of the Board in connection with any violation of the building bye-laws. Fol-
lowing, discussion of the matter of commercial workshops it was resolved that such workshops be prohibited outside the light and service industrial areas. Tree Planting. The Taupo Horticultural Society wrote offering to donate forty or fifty silver birch trees and the subt of ten pounds toward the cost of planting same. It was decided that this office be accepted and that the Works Committee meet the Society to go into details. An application from the Taupo R.S.A., for permission to sell poppies on Poppy Day, Saturday, April 18th., on the streete, was granted. Electricity Matters, In connection with payment of aecounts for the supply of electricity it was decided that same be payabie within fourteen days, as customazy with other Supply Authorities. The number of premises connected was reported as being ninety-six to date. Mr J. M. Sherwood, Electrical Inspector, reported that low tensiim distribution had been completed and service lines run in Heuheu, Koberts, Heathcote, Williams, Tuwharetoa and1 Northcroft Streets, part of Titiraupenga Street and in Waipahihi' Avenue, and that service lines were being run in Mere Road. A section. of high, tension feeder and low tension distribution lines had' beer. ^aected in Rifle Range Road, and the transformer sub-station at Waipahihi was in operation. Poles had been erected in Kaimanawa and Tamamutu Streets and work was proceeding on transformer structures in Kaimanawa Street North and Rifle Range Road.
