Play Reading. The Taupo Dramatic Society's first fortnightly play reading will take plaee in Riekit's Ha 11 tonight, Wednesday, at 8 p.m., when 2 plays will be read. * I Dental Rooras. — Mr €. P. Shirley, dental surgeon, notifies. in this issue that .his*. dental / .rooms in future will be found at the premises of the Taupo Drug Store, Roberts Street, Taupo. * Guides' Doll Competitions — The eompetition held by the Taupo Girl Guides recently, in which the prize was a doll, dressed by Mrs Snooks, was won by Master Sam Torepe. Ar Saies of Property. — The following saies of property hiave been reported: — Mr J. B. Knigbt's house and section in Whabaipo Avenue has been sold to Mr E. W. Fish. A quarter acre section in Roberts Street, next to Mr D. A. McLeod's residence, has been sold by Mr G. S. Anchor to ✓ Mr A. H. Ripley, of Auckland. \ ★
A Lciie Guide. — The Taupo Girl Guide company has "adopted" a lone guide, Diana Hanson, a^red 13, of Auckland. Diana is unaole to walk or to talk, but takes a keen interest in Guiding, and the Taupo girls will correspond with her and keep her in touch with their doings and with matters connected with Guiding. ★ Chaplain for K Force. — The Rev. H. Kangiihu, formerly in charge of the Taupo Mission District, and latterly Viear of St. Faith's Church, Ohinemutu, left Rotorua last week for camp prior to going to Korea as Chaplain to the Forees. He was farewelled -with songs and, speeches at Tamarekapua Meeting House. Among the speakers was the Rev Paul Temuera, Vicar of the historic church Rangiatea, at Otaki, who was also stationed at Taupo1 for a nurnber -of years. Ar "Aue! Whai a Horse!" —
Twentysix children of Tihoi mostly Maori, recently spent a week in Auckland, camping at Tui Glen Henderson, states the Putaruru News. They were in charge of Mr and Mrs P. Amos, their teachers and three other adults, and visited a number of factories, a Home liner, a school. Station 1ZB ( where they sarig over ihe air), the Museum andi the Zoo. Most of the party had, not seen a large town nor the sea. On seeing the elephant at the Zoo oue child exclaimed, "Aue! wihat a horse!" *
Proposed New Road. — A large ly attended conference of local bodies,. farming interests, and others was held recently at Mangakino, to further the proposal for a new road from Te I wamutu to Mangakino, which would serve iho vast area of land now being developed in that district and give aecess to the Main Trunk road and rail system. The Mangakino Chronicle states that committee is to be set up to pusn the proposal. Such a road would provide a new route from Taupo to the? King Country. & National Party Meeting.
Referring to the annual meeting; of the Taupo Brancih N e w Zealand National Party advertised elsewhere in this issue, the secretary, Miss McKelvie points out that, as with other political parties the basis of the organisation is the local branclv and that in the final analysis the party policy is based on remits from such ^ranches. Members are therefore to attend and use their chance fb "win supporters and influence people."
War Memorial ^Difficulties. — War Memorial Committees in a nuUiber of places have been experiencmg difficulty in raising mongy required. At Tokoroa a crucial stag'e has been reached in development of the War Memorial Sports Ground, the problem being whether the first stage of the plan can be ccmplejed without depleting funds required for construction of swimming baths in the second stage (states the South Waikato News of March 19th.). The response to date has been so discouraging that the Committee is justified: in being pessimistic in its attitude, slays the report. Referring to the War Memoria Hall at Te Kowhai, the chairman of the Waipa County Council told members on March 16, as reported by the Waikato Times, that only about half the money required had been raised.
