FINANCIAL REPORT" PRESENTED A public meeting of representatives of bodies represented on the Taupo War Memorial . Hall Assoeiation, md of others interested, called by the Chairmaii of the Assoeiation. Mr W. Stevens, was held in Riekit's Hall in Thursday night, iVIarch. 19th. There wa.s an atteiidance of thirty. In opening the meeting, the Chairnian said that its purpose was to present the balanee Sheet of the Assoeiation, to give a report on the work dome, and to propose some reeoinmendation to the To'vn Board with regard to the balanee of -mo ney ■sti.ll required. Amount raised £1952 5/8. / The Chairmaii then read the Statement of Receipfcs and Expenduture and the Balanee Sheet. Mr W. G. Morris moved, seconded by Mrs H. Thomas, that the Statement and Balanee Sheet be reeeiyed. Carried. The (Statement sliowed: Reeeipts totaliing £2, 618 1/2, made up of:— ~ Proeeeds raffles', £121 18/-; Shownien (hire of grounds). £43 5/9; Donations, £1,127 7/6; Business Men donations* £179 4/-; Ratepayer's Assoeiation, Colleetion, £108 6/6; Motor Boat Club, Maori Day, Advertising, Quiek Raffles, and Christ-mas-New Year Carnival £1,037 19/5. Expenditure totalled £830 15/6, leaving eredit balanee of £1,780 in the Post Offiee Savings Bank, and £7 5/8, in the Bank of New Zealand. The Balanee Sheet showed aecumulated funds to be handed to the Towft Board! totalii ng £1,952 5/8, made up of the eredit bank balanees mentkrned above plus assets totallmg £165 made up as follows: — Five tents, at cost. £50; Spotjights at cost, £77 13/-; Eleetric equipment at -cost! £6 14/-; sundry smail assets at valuation, £30 13/-'. In answer to an enquiiy the Chairman said the spetJights and electiieal equipment would be handed to the Town Board for the Memorial Hall and would carry the £ for £ subsidy. Mr C. Vedder mo-ved that the Balanee Sheet be adopted. The motion was seconded by Mr W. G. Morris and carried. Report by Chairman. In reportiog on ihe work of the Assoeiation the Chairman said that the eampaign had been liard work, and -fchanked the v Committee for their •eff orts, and in partieuiar the Tirea&urers, Messrs E. F. Wright and B. Armstrong, aird the Organiser, Mr J. D. Swan, who had worked uneeasingly, save for a period when he was laid up, and wi th out whom there would have been no Carnival. He expressed pleasure at having been Chairman and gratifieation at the re- i sults. The Assoeiation fostered several new organisations, namely the j Dramatie Society the Marching Girls Assoeiation,' the Nation ai Dfancdng, and the Aequatic Sports, and had shown that Taupo eould run a Carnival. He suggested that at a later date an organisation might be set up to eo-oidinate the efforts of loeal clubs and societies in running an A nnua! Carnival to provide entertainment for visitors, which was needed in Taupo. In closing' Mr slevens mentioned that the present .members of the Assoeiation wished to wind np their work that night. The Organiser, Mr J. D. Swan, then referred to a nuinber of sundry items in the Hall. Mr Swan pointed out that
the amount tiiat had been raised, togethei* wdth the money already in the Town Board's hands, plus the £ for £ subsidy from the Government, would still be less than ihe amount required to build the Hall. Following discussion as to ways and means of raising the balanee still required., Mr Vedder moved that the money raised be handed to the Town Board. Mr K. E. Young seconded the motion, which was carried. A motion by Mr Thomas. seconded by Mr W. L. Haines, that the matter be left in the hands of the Town Board. was carried. New Committee Formed Mr K. E. louiig reierred to the Cbairman/s announcement that the Assoeiation niembers wished to end their work that night, and suggested that perhaps they might consent to remain in existence until June, and that further efforts might be made to raise the amount still required in tirne to obtain the subsidy from the Government on the same. It was pointed oufc that when the house to bou.se colleetion was made a number of areas of the town were not canvassedj, and a number of residents had1 not been approached for donations. Mr Young thoug.ht that another house to house appeal. therefore, would be worth while. Mr Stevens said that he would not be able to eontinue on the Committee. After discussion, Miss Lewis moved that the Assoeiation go into recess. Miss Branson seconded the motion, whieh was carried. The Chairman then ealled for volunteers to form a new Committee to endeavour to raise the further sum required. The following members of the Assoeiation voiunteered for the new Committee: Mrs K. Reid, Mrs S. Kent, Messrs J. D. Swan, C. Vedder, lan Logan. J A. Grace. The toi lowing new mem - j bers also voiunteered: Mrs Peart, e Miss Branson, Messrs K.. E. Young, W. L. Haines E. Glass, George Reid Jun., A. Kennedy. It was moved by Mr Young, seconded by M r C. Thomas, and carried, that Mr J. D. Swan be chairman of the new Committee.. The first meeting of the Committee was fixed for April Ist. Mr W. G. Morris then moved a vote of tliank:s to the Chairman, Mr W. Stevens, the Qrgaojser, Mr J. D. Swan, and the members of the Assoeiation, for their work. Mrs Peart seconded the motion which. was carried with applause. (Note: — A presentation made during the evening to Mr J. D.
