VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
0, T°" tT° mccessive days of last week the serviees of the fet. John Ambulance Brigade's local ambulance and personn,el were required urgently as the result of two serious accidents the two sufferers in which had to be taken to Rotorua Hospital. Coming at a timq when the St. John Ambulance Association in Taupo has commenced a series of doctors' lectures m first aid and has appealed for volunteers to assist in carryng on its work, these happenings stress the valuable service which is being given by the members of the Brigade, and give pomt to the appeal being made for further helpers. But service o. a more personal nature, such as that provided by the St. John Ambulance Brigade, is of at least equal importance No matter how complete may be any system of Sociai Security medical attendance, the rieed for and value of voluntarv service to augment it and give the necessary leaven of human kindness will never be done away with. Technical efficiencv and skill there must always be. But the sympathetic touc'h oi human lovejs equally essential, ,and it is when we render service freely that such a spirit shows itself within us To come down from these general statements to their particular application, it is to be hoped that the present ap~ peal ot the Ambulance Brigade for volunteers does not go unheeded. It presents a great opportunity for training in a branch of service that will bring its own rich rewards to those who fit themselves for it.
