ANNUAL GOLF MEETING

TAUPO CLUB SHOWS FURTHER PROGRESS The Annual Meeting of the Taupo Golf C!ub was held at the Clubhouse on Friday evening, February 20th., when the President, Mr L. Cheal presided over an attendance of some forty two members, Reviewing the year ended December 81st. last, Mr . Cheal reported that membership had continued ,to increase. The full playing membership was 64 men, an increase of six, and thirtynine ladies, a increase of nine, while country membership totalled sixtyeight men, an increase jof fourteen, and thirtyfour ladies, an increase of twelve. The non-playing membership was forty, an increase of 16. Income for the year was the highest yet reeorded, but the club was committed to heavy expenditure for improvements some of which, were already in progxess. Maintenance and improveraent had been such that never before had they had such excellent playi ng conditions. Further progress nad been made with the new nine iioles. area." A one day tournament field on December 29th. had shown a . financial profit of £44, • which ihe club had made up to £50 which was given to the War Memorial Hall Fimd. Thanks were due to many members and several visitors for donations and gifts. Mr Cheal mentioned specially donations of £25 from Mr W. H. Kent, and £25 from the Gallagher Family. The latter had expressed a wish that seats be | purchased and placed at suitable positions on the links. After asking members to stand in silence as a vjribute to Mrs Limbrick, a club raember who had died recently, the President eoncluded with thanks to otficers and committee for their year's work. Mr K. E. Young, Club Captain, gave a review of work on the course. £921 had be'en spent on Ae new nine hole area out of revenue, while £270 had been spent on additions to the motor mower, and £95 for a new greens mower. The Committee had arranged to build a new shed for the mowers. On the motion of Mr Miles, seconded by Mr Craham, the reports were adopted. Mr E. Wright commented on the Balanee Sheet at the President's request, summarising it as extremely isiiccessful and moved its adoption, seconded by Mr A. M. Smith. Carried. Election of Officers. Mr Vv . Branson, a former vicepresident and an old member, was elected Patron unopposed and with aoclamation. Mr L. E. Cheal was re-elected unopposed as President, and Mr Reg Tappenden as VicePresident. Mr K. E. Young was re-elected as Captain, also unopposed. For the position of Viee-captain there were two nominations, Messrs A. Graham. and J. Woodward, a ballot ' resalting in Mr Woodward 's election. For the Secretaryship, Miss J. Branson was re-elected unopposed. For the Committee, nominations were Mrs C. Vedder, Mrs K. E. Young, Messrs A. Craham, L. E. • Pearse, T. Price, L. Stephenson, E. F. Wright, and O. Wright. The President suggested that in accordance with previous custom, there always ha ving been two lady members of committee, he should declare the two ladies nominated to be elected, and proceed, to election of five men. Several members having expressed dissent from this suggestion, Mrs K. E. Young moved "That all naxnes gq in togetherY Mrs C. Vedder. the other lady tiominee, seconded.

Mrs Hullten moved qn amendment, "That there be two women on the Committee as in the past." Mr Jack Miles seconded the amendment. On being put to the vote, the amendment was carried on a show of hands and the President declared the two lady ncminees duly elected. The ballot for five committee men resulted in the election of Messrs Pearse, Price, Stephenson, E. F. Wright, and O. Wright. Messrs Butler and Spence were reappointed as the Club's accountants. Mrs Hullten was elected as press correspondent. Subscriptions and Ceneral. After discussion of subscription rates it was decicled that the subscription for country members be £3 3/- reducible to £2 2/- if paki by May 1st. or within six weeks. The rate was formerly £2 2/- ' with out any rebate for prompt payment and the alteration placed the subscripticn in line with other elasses. The rate for junior country members was fixed at the sarne rate as for adult members. Other subscriptions were unchanged, a motion by Mr Pearse, seconded by Mr Irvine, that the ladies subscriptions be the same as the mens having been lcst in favour of an amendment that they romam as they were. Green fees, which last year increased by £100 to a total of £339, were left unchanged. Arising out cf the discussion on subscription rates a motion that "The incv ming Committee revise the Constit ition and ea 11 a special geheral meeting to consider any suggested changes" was moved by Mr L. Stephenson, j seconded by Mr K. E. Young, and | carried. It was also decided that j j tlie Committee go into the whole matter of bunkers and bring the matter before the special general meet;ng already mentioned. Mr A. Graham moved "That a full tirn.e ^"eenkeeper be appointed,M Mr O. Wright seconding. After considerable discussion the mover and seconder withdrew their motion and re placed it with one "That the Committee go fully into the matter of labour on the course and report to ■he special general meeting within three months." Carried. Miss McKeelvie and Mrs K. E. Youn g were ongratulated on their work as the Ica Committee and consented to rerkction for one more year. Dinner, Ball & Opening. It was left to the Committee to fix

a date in July for the Club's annual dinner. Miss Margaret Smith brOught up the matter of a Golf Ball and fcllowing discussion a Ball Committee was elected consisting of Miss M. Smith, .Miss Mina Scott, Miss Judy Thompson, Mrs Peart, and Messrs H. R. Gjbson, Rex Beale, David Woodward, A. M. Smith, with power to adcl. Mr A. M. Smith was appointed commnor, and it was left to the Committee to fix a date for Ihe Ball after reference to the General Committee. The Opening Day fcr the coming season was fixed as March 15th., and on this cheerful nofe the meeting closed and members had s upper prepared by the ladies. I f ' ' -
