The Opossum Pest. — Another report of an opossum near ?Tampo comes fropn Mr Rey Britten of "Kaikora," Otane, H.B., who saw a young one in the glare of the headlights of his car when driving up the Terraces Hill on the night of Friday 13th. Mr Britten's account of damage done to his garden and orchard by these pests indicates that their establishment in Taupo would be most unwreleome to Taupo gardeners. * | New River Bank Wai!.— The Ministry of Works staff is now making good progress with the southern portion of the new retaining wa 11 at the Landing* Retarve, Taupo. The sheathmg has been completed and spoil is nowr being bulli dozed to fill in behind the wall. J Several small jetties are to be constructed running out from the wali at a slight downstream ang.le to provide laimch berthage. The final reclamation behind the wall will much improve the appearance of the Res.erve. We understand that the Internal Affairs Department hope later to station an officer at Taupo to act as a harbourmaster to supervise both the Landing Reserve and the Lake shores and shipping in general. / A Credit to A\ex Tierney. — A rousing march tune attracted twenty to thirty spectators 'in Tongariro Street on a recent eveniing when the Crusaders Girls Marc'hing team were practising under Mr Clem Corrie, c-o-instructor with Mr j Tierney. Great credit foi | the rapidity of this progress is given i to Mr Tierney, who has trained the | girls from the inception of the moveI ment in Taupo.
