RAISED TO THE "PIONEERAGE"

EX-EDITOR W RITES TO THE PAPER Mr C. J. McKinnon, first editor of the Taupo Times, has taken the opportunity of his re|tum to retiilement to indulge in the private citizen's privilege of "writing to the paper." His letter, which we published with pleasure, is as follows; "It would be ungracious of me to refrain from public acknowledgvment of the compliments extended to my humble self in your editorial reference last week to the pioneering of the Taupo Times. I would like, however, with your permission, to place on record my own personal recognition of the goodwill, co-opera-tion and active assistance of others whp helped me to put the Times on its feet and to whom honour is due. It was team work that did it. Without it the venture would have failed. "There were the members of the original provisional committee who gave their time and interested attention to the proposal submitted to them for the establishment of the paper. It was due to their suppori and final approval that the enterprise was launched. There were others who by their articles, contributions of news letters and items and reports of meetings helped to provide a weekly joumal of loeal interest. And since no newspaper can possihly exist without the life-blood of advertising revenue, no small eredit is due to one member of the jfjfrovfsiosiia'l committee, Mr Georgfe Audley Johnston Aeres — "Bob" to his friends — who undertook to organise the advertising side of the business and succeeded. So you see, Sir, that when all has been said, there is not a great deal left for me to erow about. "Having been taught -by stern Sects parents ever to 'walk humbly before God? I find the spot-light of publicity directed upon me by your kmdly editorial somewhat embarrausing. And the laurel wreath of the Pioneerage' not a little alarming — 'Lneasy lies the head that wears a crown/ you know." 1 am, etc.,

C. J.

McKINNON.
