NEW HOUSES— MANY VISITORS (Correspondent) Feb. 7, 1953. The season to date has seen perhaps the largest crowd of holidaymakers to date in the Acacia Bay area. A number of holiday dweLlings have gone up in the past twelve months, and this with seasonal campers and guests at Acacia Cabins has mad'e the Bay road extremely busy at times. Guests at Acacia Cabins over December-January included Messrs Treacher and Bougeis, Hastings; Mr and Mrs Potter, Fernhill; Mr and Mrs J. Wells, Napier; Mr S. Carter and party, Auckland; Mr and Mrs T. Fleming, Hawera; Mr and Mrs Doug Ross, Hastings; Mr and Mrs Cullum, Wanganui; Mr W. Finlay and party, Wellington; Mr C. Donovan and family, Auckland; Mr and Mrs T. Bone, Hastings; Mrs L. McLean and family, Christchurch; Mr J. J. McKennie, Te Kaiti; Dr and Mrs J. McHaffie, Otaki; Mr and Mrs G. Mason and Mr and Mrs L. Matthews, Hastings; Mr and Mrs S. Gracie, Fielding; Mr and Mrs Wilson, Otaki; Mr and Mrs E. F. Graham, Ellerslie; Miss Richardson, Wellington. Some Big Fish. An eleven pound brown was taken from the beach near the Whakaipo Stream by Mr A. Grinter of Auckland. Twoxrainbows over eight pounds and a brown of nine and a half pounds were landed from the shore near Acacia Bay. N Fly-f ishing was good for most of January round Rangatira and Te Karaka, Dr McHaffie securing limits on three successive mornings and a fourth limit two days later. Limits were also taken by Mr S. Gracie. The fish have averaged four pounds, about half being extremely good conditioned whilst the remainder could only be classed as poor indeed. New Access Roads. It is pleasing to note that a num- ■ bei oi" access roads to the Lake have recently been oleared, and that the Department concerned has this season put in a lot of time keeping the Acacia Bay Road in good surfaee, which has been appreciated by the many motorists using this popular route to | good fishing.
