TAUPO GIRL GUIDES

KXPERIEXCE UNDER CANVAS The Captain of the hfo. 1 Company of the Taupo Girl" Giiides (Mrs Peart), has just spent a. week under canvas with some of her leaders, or sccond claas 'Guides, at Kaiwiniwini, near Hamilton. As the result of their experience the girls had obtain■tained considerable knowledge of guiding, and made a satisfactory advance to first-class grade. They acquitted themselves very creditably with older companions in ihe Guides encampment, and in spite of unfavourable weather conditions passed tests and were now in a position to take their place in Girl Guiding with credit to themselves. 1 One distinction much sought after | were the camp scarves endorsed with j their woodcraft names. Thev had | to work hard to merit this award, and j their Captain (Mrs Peart), was very pioud of fthe fact that not one failed to make the grade. During recent months the Taupo Girl Giiides have rai'sed some £60 by their own efforts. Of this sum, £23 | has been given to the War Memorial j Hall F und ,and £19 to the Arohanui J unior Marching Team as a trust fimd for costumes etc. The balance was spent in the purehase of material required for the recent public entertainment, such as f rocks. In the | latter connection Mrs Peart, as Cap- ' iam, desir-es sincerely to endorse the J a ppreeiatidn publicly expressed: of j Lieut. Snooks efforts with the needlei work required to be done for the frodking, which was greatly admired.
