Mrs C. Snooks of Taupo piust have been justifiably proud when the Taupo Girl Guides presented1 their conoert on two oceasions1. Mrs Snooks was responsible for the sewing of thirty four costuanes for these functions, a herculean task for any | needlewoman. The time and patience required for the makino of the very attraetive frocking deserves the highest praise as seldonii if ever9 is sueh. elabopate work ,put into cos>tirmes sueh as these. ★ Mr and Mrs G. W. P. Reid of Taupo were joined for the Christmas holidays by their daughter Mrs G. Brassey of Auckland, who offiei'ated as a castume jud'ge at the Taupo marching eompetitions and Mr and Mrs Jim Reid and Lindsay of Auckland, Mr Don Steele, their grand^on Bryan Garliek and Miss Kathie Ingram. ★ Mrs G. W. P. Reid is at present an in-mate of the Rotorua Hospitak Friends and relatives wish (her a speedy reeovery. ★ Mrs M. Wright, Mr and Mrs- 0. Tuohy and Lynette, Mr and Mrs H. Oliver, Mr Bill Wright and Graham have returned to Auckland after an enjoyable holid'ay in Taupo. ★ Miss /Mufty Rameka also spent her holidays in Taupo with. her parents, Mr and Mrs K. Rameka. ★

HARD-UP BALL The Hardl Up Ball held recently as the final evening entertainmenit of tfhe Carnival was attended by at least 300 people. The M.C. was Mr "Jack" . Rowlandis, and music was provided by Mrs Mika's Orchestra. Sonue very novel and amusing hard-up costumes were worn. Judges of these were Mrs T. Price and' Mr W. Stevens. The. following ^prize winners were selected: — Most Original Costume, "The Sundowner," Mr Bill Arnold. Hardest-up costume, Mr Mac Most Original Couple, Mr and Mrs T. Kent. A tasty supper of hot pies, saveloys, etc., was served, and thoroughly enjoyed! by the happy crowd of dancers.
