SPEED-BOAT RACING
Successful Boxing Day Regatta The Taupo Motor Boat Club's Speedboat Regatta on Boxing Day was a most successful event, witbj entries from many parts of the Nortb Xsland. The races were run over a triangular course close to the Lake beach between Tongariro and Kaimanawa St^eets. From the Club's official barge, marking the starting and finishing lines, loud speakers directed inshore kept speriators massed along the cliff-top informed as to details and results of the events. With the M-ain Highway adjacent to the course closed to traffic the grassed area between the road and the eliff provided a natural grandstand Time trials run firom 10 a.m. provided interest for the g^thering crowd which had reached large proportions when racing commehced soon after 1 p.m. Weather coftditions were ideal, the Lake being cairn throughout the day, large fieids pirovided spectacular racing and exeiting finishes which, set against the brilliant background of Lake and rnountains, rnade an everchanging scene of striking beauty Considerable interest was shown in an exhibition run given by Mr D. A. MeLeod's Susan Leigh X in company with the big Auckland hydroplane, Whirlwin.
