SPEED-BOAT RACING

Successful Boxing Day Regatta The Taupo Motor Boat Club's Speedboat Regatta on Boxing Day was a most successful event, witbj entries from many parts of the Nortb Xsland. The races were run over a triangular course close to the Lake beach between Tongariro and Kaimanawa St^eets. From the Club's official barge, marking the starting and finishing lines, loud speakers directed inshore kept speriators massed along the cliff-top informed as to details and results of the events. With the M-ain Highway adjacent to the course closed to traffic the grassed area between the road and the eliff provided a natural grandstand Time trials run firom 10 a.m. provided interest for the g^thering crowd which had reached large proportions when racing commehced soon after 1 p.m. Weather coftditions were ideal, the Lake being cairn throughout the day, large fieids pirovided spectacular racing and exeiting finishes which, set against the brilliant background of Lake and rnountains, rnade an everchanging scene of striking beauty Considerable interest was shown in an exhibition run given by Mr D. A. MeLeod's Susan Leigh X in company with the big Auckland hydroplane, Whirlwin. The Club commifctee gave high praise to the many non-members who came forward and assisted in many ways1 at the regatta especially at the slipway, and to the versatile microphone manrter of Mr Alan McLean. Results of the racing were as, follows: — V-Bottom Handicap: Alvern 1; Venture 2; Little Cracker 3. Hydroplane Handicap: Whirlwin 1; Top Flite 2; Le Sabre 3, Taupo V-Bottom Championship: Scramble 1; Nautigal 2; Fleetwing 3. • Taupo Hydroplane Championship: Whirlwin 1, Clipper 2; Top Flite 3. Ladies' Race: Hot Canary 1; Le Sabre 2; Taylor Maid 3. V-Bottom Cliallenge Handicap: Nautigal 1, Hot Canary 2, Alvern 3. Hydroplane Cliallenge Handicap: Clipper 1; Surprise 2; Le Sabre 3. V-Bottom Sweepstake: Little Cracker 1; Scramble 2; Nautigal 3. Hydroplane Sweepstake: Tip-Toe 1; Le Sabre 2; Surprise 3. Campbell Tirophy: Nautigal 1, Top Flite 2; Surprise 3.

All-in Handicap: Top Flite 1; Little Cracker 2; Surprise 3, Monarch Motors Challenge Trophy, for fastest time trial lap by Ford engined boats: Fleetwing, time 49 s. J. E. Skeen Challenge Cup, for fastest lap of the day, Scramble, j 40 ^4-5 secs. . Points Prize: Nautigal, 15 pts. Points Prize (J, Kruska's CanteenJ of Cutlery), foir most points obtained| at three consecutive Taupo- Boxing i Day Regattas: Mr J. Bichard-j i son, of Papakura, in Surprise, 38 points.
