The Report was as follows: — Your Committee has been very active, holding on an average of one meeting at least a month. It has ^stablished very good relations with he Taupo Town Board, and it apmeciates the courtesy of the Board :n calling special meetings to enable us to discuss at convenient times all matters pertaining to both bodies. Your Committee has at all times been most favourably recched and the Taupo Town Board has given all information asked for frankly and openly. The matters deaic with between both parties included, amongst others, the following: — 1. — Electric Power Scheme. — We $ have been kept fully informed on all matters pertaining to the Ratepayers. •
2. — Fire break around the town. — ■ The decision was made by the Minister in 1946 to clear permanently an area of approximately 1,200 acres of land north of Taupo. This was not lone and the matter is now under review again. 3. — Building Permits and the apoointment of Building Inspectors and other Key men was taken up with the Taupo Town Board at the request of members. 1. — Togeiher with the Businessmen's Association we have sponsored the Children^ Playground and have to report that good progress has been made in this matter. 5. — We have outlined to the Minister in Charge of the Tourist Deoartment the grave need for a Tourist Agency in Taupo. This is not finalised yet as the Minister reeeived a report from his Department Ithat the population of Taupo did not warrant establishing an Agency here. We very strenuously opposed his DepartmenCs suggestion, Through our suggestion the matter is under complete reconsideration, as yre feel that Taupo needs and reauires this ^service. j ^ 6. — W^e have given our efforts and support to the War Memorial Hall Committee in their drive for funds, and our efforts in this respect have been relatively satisfactory.
