I Mr and Mrs C. J. ' Vedder of Taupo announce the engagement of their only daughter Margaret Briar to Louis Harival, third son of Mr and Mrs G. Davis of Taupo. ★ Mrs M. S. Maedonnel has gone on a visit to Mr and Mrs Gordon Maedonnel at National Park. ★ Constable D. Mills left for Invercargill on Monday on annual holiday leave. ★ Mrs Peart, as Captain of the Taupo Girl Guides, reports the receipt of an anonymous donation of £2, with a message of eneouragement for the progress of the Company. ★
TAUPO' WOMEN'S INiSTITUTE MONTHLY MEETING At the monthly meeting of *the Taupo Women's Institute on Wednesday, November 9, there was a discussion on the rummage sale to be held next month. Proceeds will be donated to the War Memorial Fund. The date decided was December 11. Mrs Gradwell gave a report on the Rotorua Federations bi-annual "meeting. A bus load of approximately 20 members attended, Mrs Gradwell and Mrs Davis were delegates. A remit was submitted urging the preservation of the Scenic Attractions at Huka Falls and Aratiatia Rapids. An interesting demonstration was given by Mrs Fullford on making a covered faney-work on a handkerchief box. There was an excellent response to the competition for a Christmas Cracker Mrs and Miss Stowe tied for first, while Mrs Wilson won the Sultana Cake competition. Prize for the best spray was won by Mrs J . Taylor and by Mrs Glass for the best bloom. Next month in place of usual meeting the Institute will hold a Christmas Party, with a Christmas Tree, and Santa Claus for the children. Members are invited to bring a guest. There will be the usual exchange of gifts. The competition for the Gardening Oircle members will be u A Basket of Flowers."
