WAR MEMORIAL HALL ASSOCIATION

ORGANISERS NOTES CARNIVAL FEATURES 4 All Ratepayers and residents should realise that Taupo needs some sort of Civic Hall and every day that need is becoming more urgent. If the R.S.A. had ncC started two years ago to collect funds for a Hall and vest same in the Board, the Town Board » would very soon have had to give the matter some thought. Every town miust have a Municipal Hall or Civic Centre of some sort. If the Board had to build a Hall the size of the proposed one (and the way the town is expanding it eould not b " smaller) it. would cost about £16,000, this amount would have to be borrowed at 4 % andi repaid over iwenty five to thirty years, wh:ch would mean an extra charge 011 the rates for interest and principal of over a £1,000 a year for twenty five to thirty years. Now that a tender has been accepted it is known that we only have to raise £3,000 from the carnival to enable Taupo to have a Hall erected free of debt. The War Memorial Hall Association ask all to get behind them and help in raising this money and thus obtain a debt free Hall. The tentative programme for the Oarnival was published in last week's "Times," and if the people of Taupo will start preparing for the Carnival they will be assisting the Committee. Attention is particularly drawn to the following functions. Wednesday, December 24th. "Back to Childhood Dance." Start thinking now of the costume you are going to wear, which you would have worn at 10 years or under. There will be good prizes for the best and most original costumes. Wednesday, December 31st.: "Baby Show," Mothers we want all to enter babies and thus make the show one of the big events of the Carnival. Also December 31st.: "Fancy Dress Ball" Please start preparing your costumes now. Thursday, Janpary 1st.: ^Children's Fancy Dress Ball." >Start early to get the children's costumes ready.

Friday, January 2nd.: "Parade of Decorated Motor-cars, trucks, cycles, prams, and Fancy Dress." Here the co-operation of everyone in Taupo is sought so that we can put on the best parade possible for the entertainment of the visitors. It should be possible to have in the parade at least ten decorated trucks or floats, 20 decorated motor-cars, and unlimited cycles, prams and people in fancy dress. Other towns much smaller than Taupo annually have very successful Fancy Dress Parades. Saturday, December 27th.: "Maori Day." This cannot be a success without the full support of all the Maoris from Maroa to Tokaanu. Taupo Dramatic Society — The producer for 'Blithe Spirit" Mr Arnold Goodwin arrived and met the members of the Society last Wednesday vvhen two One-Acr Plays were read. Rehearsals started in earnest on Friday and we can look forward to some excellent performances. Owing to the fact that the Dramatic Society is ha^ing a special General Meeting on Tuesday, November 25th., the Card Evening that was arranged by Mr and Mrs Birnie for that evening in aid of the Hall

funds, will now be held in Monday, November 24th.
