FISHING SEASON OPENS IN TAUPO

Mixed Condition : But Soixi0 Good Catches Ihe following notes have come to hand: Taupo: Fly fishing has been hard and traw-* ling quite good. The condition of the fish has been fair only. A limit catch of small fish was taken off the long groyne near Taupo wharf within the space of one hour on opening* morning. Waitahanui : Boats did well when they eould get out on opening day. Fishing at the mouth of the river was good under difnculties. Quite a few good fish wero taken. A slip up-stream made the river very dirty on Sunday and a westerly wind made conditions impossible later.

Hatepe: Fish have been taken off the beaeh in reasonable quantities with an occasional good fish. Fisliing from boats was generally good and the fish taken were in better condition. Tokaanu: The fish taken have been of good cjuality with few slabs. Boats have found it easy to get limit catches but around the Tongariro delta the water has been muddy and the fishing not so good. Western Bays: Reports from the Western Bay indicate that fly fishing at the stream mouths was poor on the first two days of the season owing to the streams being discoloured and high following the heavy rain. There appeared to be a good number of fish at the mouths. Trawling in the northerp . bays was good. Many of the fish taken were in good condition and young fish weighed from 4 to 5 Ibs.
