DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL
Referring to our leading articie on the Taupo District High School last week, in which emphasis was placecl on the importance of taking effective action in regard to the difficulty of obtaining secondary assistants on account of the housing problem, it has been represented to us that so far as. the School Committee is concemec} no effort has. been spared to ffnd a satisfactory solution. Apparently the lengths to which. the Education Department and fhe education board s committees can go in the direction of providing accommodation is limjted .by the regulations. Taupo has ,^.;.,residence for the headmaster, and & house is being* built for the seniorr secondary master. But for the remainder of the staff of the Secondary Department the problem of accommodation which apparently must be solved before applicants will apply for positions recently advertised in vain, still attains. Inaction will not solve it. An appeal to the general community of Taupo to make available accommodation suited to the requirements of the case might be worth trying. On present irrospects the Secondary Department will start the new school year understaffed. Something must be done for the sake of the children.
