War Memorial Hall Campaign
EXECUTIVE MEETING A meetpig of the executive of the Taupo War Memorial Hall Assoeiation was held at the residence of Colonel J. D. Swan on Thursday, October 23. Correspondence dealt with a letter from the Town Board advising that 'the executive may arrange a , suitable celebration for the night when electricity is switched on in Taupo, subject th&t such celebration take place after the chairman of the Town Board has performed the official ceremony of switching on. In the matter of shingle for the halj site, this matter has been referred to Oouncillor Swan. Gift of Comport. — A gift of a handsome comport was received from J. Myers & Co., Merchants, Wellington, which donation had been acknowldged by the secretary, expressing appreci alron and thanks. Resignation of Secretary. — The chairman read a letter he had receivfrom the secretary tendering her resignation, because of pressure of work at the office where she is employed. This resignation was accepted with regret, and a note was made in the minutes of the appreciation of the executive for the efficient manner in which the secretary had carried out her duties. Mrs Kent agreed to continue being secretary until the next executive meeting on Novemfoer 3, by which time it is hoped to jbave appointed a successor. Extra Member to Executive. — It was carried unanimously that Mrs Kent be appointed an extra member to the executive, when her duties as secretary ceased. Organiser's Expenses. — It was carried that expenses such as petrol, tolls, and any out-of-pocket commitxnents incurred by the organiser be paid to him out of the Memorial Hall Funds. Organiser's Report. — Printing of Notepaper: It was unanimously agreed that a supply of suitably headed notepaper, together with matching envelopes he printed. Guy Fawke's Night. — The executive decided that this celebration commence at 7.30 p.m,, and that the charge for adults be 2/-, whilst priinary school children would have free admittance. The secretary was instructed to write to the Town Board for permission to make this charge. Programme. — The suggested programme was put before the meeting for approval. On Speed Boat Day, Becember 26, it was hoped to close the main highway between Tongariro and Kaimanawa SJtreets from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the secretary was instructed to write to the Town Board asking for their support to the appiication.
It was decided to try out the idea of a Swimming Carnival, as the idea might be worth fostering on future occasions of carnival. The meeting decided that the printing of posters should be arranged as soan as possible so that they could be widely distributed to , advertise the coming carnival. Programmes. — The organiser was given authority to obtain quotes for 1600 and 2000 programmes. It was felt that the Businessmen's Association be informed that advertising could be included in the programme, as1 it was possible that some of the businessmen might like to take advantage of this medium of advertise-
ment. It was also decided that the programmes be numbered, and t'hat a prize be given to the winning number. The organiser was also given authority to have 5000 surprise packet tickets at 1/- printed. Maori Day. — The organiser and Mrs Reid intend visiting echools at Taupo, Mokai, Oruanui, Tauranga-Taupo, Waihi and Waitahanui re tearns for action songs, hakas, poi dances, stick games, etc., and also seniors at Waipahihi, Tokaanu, Rotorua, Oruanui, Little Maroa, etc., a report to be given at the next executive meeting. Drama Society. — Lights for Hall. — Carried unanimously that the Memorial Hall Assbciation purchase suitable lights for the production of plays, and also that the Hall Association advance the necessary preliminary expenditure, within reason, for anj organisation putting on entertainment for the benefit of the Hall Funds. The nexf meeting will be held on Monday, November 3 at 7.30 p.m. at Mr Armstrong's office, '
