Family Burnt Out Wednesday, October 15 was an unfortunate day for the D. Kuru family,, About 3 a.m. everyone was wakened by the fire alarm to see Kuru's house in a blaze. The fire startei in the back of the house, but by ihe timo the brigade arrived, it had a good hold and there was nothing more that could be done. Everything was lost except a few blankets and a mattress that they managed to save before being forced out hy the flames. At 5 a.m. everything was under eontroL A collection is being taken arsd so far £60 has been donated.

Coming-of-Age Parties Friends and relations from up and j down the Island assembled in the Tokaanu Hall on Saturday evening October 18th, to celebrate the com-ing-of-age of Brucv, only son Qf Mr and Mrs F. Edkins. The evening was spent in dancing. Items were given by Mr J. Koko, Mr J. Dempsey and Miss Barbara Edkins. Mrs Spencei% of Taumarunui offieiated at the pianof Mr Rex Smith, an old friend of the family, proposed the toast of the guest of honour, and after replying, Mr Edkins was presented with a key by Iona O'Brien, of Taupo. A delicious supper was heartily partaken of and dancing continued until a late hour. On October 4th Mr and Mrs J. Asher entertained 100 guests at ari evening to celebrate the coming-of-age of their daughter, Rachael. The evening was spent in dancing and items from guests. Music was supplied by a local orchestra. Tlie guest of honour looked Very charming in a white evening frock designed and made by one of her sisters, Mrs Cftapman, of Hamilton. Mrs Chapman also made and iced th© birthday cake which was cut at a delicious supper after the health of the guest of honour had been drunk. The toast was proposed by her old teacher, Mr Durward, and £he was presented with a key by Mr J. Hoko. Personai Items Miss A. Anderson, receptionist at the Tokaanu Hotel, has just returned from a few days spent with her mother at Palmerston North. Mr J. Maher is at present rel levin g Mr B. Sutherland, Postmaster, of Tokaanu, who is on annual leave.
