Among expected visitors to Taupo this week is King Koroki, due here on Monday last. ♦ * % As advert£sed, a "Grand (dance ' will be held in the Waipahihi Hall on Saturday, October 25th. The proceeds will go to the War Memorial Hall Fund. TAUPO WOMEN'S INSTITUTE MONTHLY MEETING AND FLOWER SHOW The Taupo Women's Institute held its monthly meeting at Rickit's Hall on Wednesday, October 15thy, fand fhe annual flower show the following day. At the meeting business dealt with was as follows: — An invitation from the W'haiti Women rs Institute to attend the birthday party was regretfully declined on account of the distance involved. Mrs Gradwell and Mrs Davies were elected delegates to the annual meeting of the Rotorua Federa--tion to be held on November 7th. A special bus will be engaged if sufficient numbers signify their willingness to attend — names to be handed in to Mrs Tierney. Winners of the monthly competitions: — Vase of flowers, Mrs Glass; Mrs Wilson and Mrs Coley tied for the Ladies Blouse; Best Blocm, Mrs Glass; Spray, Mrs Stowe. Gompetitions for the November meeting include, Prettiest Christmas Cracker (not to cost more than 1/6) r Sultana Cake, Best Bloom, Best Spray, and Best Vegetables. The Flower Show. There was no formal openiiig of the Institute's Flower Show in Rickit's Hall. The judges were Dr and Mrs Thomas, Mrs PeaiT, Mrs Batey, Mrs Haynes, and Mrs Shernirg. Prizes were awanled for th^ most points in each section. In the event of a tie cards were cut to determine the winner. The awards were as follow: — Decorative Section: Miss McCly- ' mont and Mrs Ian Logan (tie) 1; Mrs J. Taylor and Miss E. Rickit (tie) 3. Cut Flowers: Mrs King A, Mrs ! Tuck 2.^ : Cookery : Mrs D. Coley 1, Mrs E. ; Glass 2. Woolwork: Mrs Bogue and Mrs Tuck (tie) 1; Mrs Cartier, Mrs Taylor and Mrs Franklin (tie) 3. Needlework: Mrs A. Wilson 1, Miss McClymont (tie) . The ralfle ofta large Maiden Hair Fern was won by Mrs Grace. The points prize for the needlework section, donated by Mrs Mine% was won by Mrs A. Wilson; for the show, Mrs Coley 1; Mrs King 2; Mrs McKelvie 3. School Children's Class and Vase of Flowers: ?S. Crowther 1, N. Crowther 2, C. Booth 3. Sand Posy: F. Grace 1, J. Houghton 2, F. Grace 3. Plain Scones: P. Clark 1. T. Crowther 2. Pikelets P. Clark 1, T. Crowther 2. Gents Button-hole: P. Clark 1, R. Booth 2, R. Booth 3. The committee desires it ro be made clear that the show was open tor competition to all and sundry, not to Institute members only. Special praise is due to Miss McClymont^ who won the prize donated by Mrs King for 'the most entries in the show. She had 15 entries in all, and also won the Special Prize open to the Gardening Club donated by Mrs King for the most points in the Decorative Section. Hers was a very good effort and contributed very much to the success of the show.
