SEMINAR AT PALMERSTON NORTH The Taupo Dramatic Society hell its first private play-reading on Tuesday of last week when an excit--i g drann and a soniewhat immatuie farce were read. Members ara at present bemv tried out for the«r acting ability so that all may have equal opportr.rity to be cast for paris in the chief productions of tlhe sociel y. The Society has received details from the New Zealand Drama Council of a theatre seminar to be held at Palmerston North over the Labour Day week-end. The purpose of this seminar is to enable members of affiliated organisations all over the country to hear addressee and to discuss among themselves under the guidance of experts the various phases in the ihandling of a successful diramatic society. To a new society such as Taupo the attendance of a few members at an instructive meeting . of this kind should be invaluable. Some of the subjects which are being dealt with are "Your theatre and its equipment,'7 a vast subject which is being handled by Mr George bwan of Wellington, who recentiy attended a meeting of the Taupo Society and is now a member. "The Role of the Executive of your Society, " "Audience Organisation," Organising the production of your play, ' and 4,ReIationship of your society to your Cmmunity and to national and local Cultural Groups'^ are all vital subjects in the organisation of a dramatic society. The seminar is lree to members of an affiliated organisation. To ensure accommodation in Palmerston North it will be necessary for those interested to send in their names 'before October 14th. i.e. within one v/eek's time.
