WAR MEMORIAL HALL

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE MANY MATTERS DISCUSSED An executive meeting of the Taupo War Memorial Hall Association was held on September lstM in ;Mr Ben Armstrong's Office. Present: Mr W. J. Stevens (chair), Miss Webringo, Mrs K. Reid, ,Messrs I. Logan, C. Vedder, E. Wright, B. Arnistrong, Colonel Barton, E. Taylor, the Organiser and the Secretary. An apology was received from Mr Bert iSinclair, who had been invited to be present. It was moved and seconded, and carried unanimously, that Mr Sinclair be asked to come back as an extra member of the Committee. Correspondence. A letter from Mr Blennerhasset of Taradale, applying for the use of the new Hall as a Picture Theatre wShen not in use for dances, plays, etc., was read. The Secretary was instructed to reply stating that Mr Blennerhasset's letter has been passed on to the Town Board for their consideration.

A letter from the Town Board advised that the Association is to have sole right to use the the main public Domain and the Reserve opposite Mt. View Flat's, between December 18th. and January 3rd., that free use of the hall, if erected be granted between these dates; that the Fire Brigade Social Room may be utilised as the Organiser's Office (with the permission of the Fire Brigade); and that the Board will support application to the Authority concerned to close portions of the Main Highway when required. It was carried that a letter of ihanks be sent to the Town Board for their co-operation. A letter from the Businessmen's Association was received, asking "That Mr J. D. Swan be advised that the Businessmen's Association would do its very best to raise its target of £250, and that a canvass will be rnade of the Business People in Taupo for which purpose four collectors have been appointed." Moved by the Organiser that the Secretary write to the Businessmen's Association thanking them for their letter, and asking them to accept the Organiser's, apologies for the misunderstanding. Treasurer's Report. An amount of £243 7/- has been banked in the Post Office Savings bank to earn interest.

Organiser's Report. The Organiser (Mr J. D. Swan), reported on the suceessful trip to Wellington of Mr J. Storey and himself, in regard to the Plans for the new Hall, which have been accepted with the exception of one slight alteration in the ceiling trusses. The /Organiser a-lso visited the British Drama Council in Wellington. As reported in the Organiser's notes in last week's issue of the "Taupo Times," if a Dramatic Society is formed in Taupo the British .Drama Council of Wellington is prepared to grant a subsidy of £50 towards the expenses of engaging a producer for the first performance of the new Society. Tenders for the Hall. The niatter of Tenders for the new Hall were discussed and it was moved and seconded that it be suggested to the Town Board that tenders be advertised more widely and rnore frequently. Up to the moment 21 offers of help have been received for ihe working bee. R.S.A. Meeting. The organiser reported briefly on the R.S.A. meeting held on August 29, and stated that the 41 members present passed a unanimous vote that all would be bohind the Memorial Hall and all disassociated themselves from anonymous correspondence. It was moved and seconded that the full engagement of Rickit's Hall

be confirmed and that a deposit be made, talance to be paid on December 1. GIRLS' MARCHING TEAMS ASSOCIATION IN TAUPO The organiser, reporting on the suggested entertainment during the carnival fortnight, advised that the general secretary of the N.Z. Marching Association, Wellington, had suggested the formation of a Marching Association in Taupo, and to have the same incorporated under the Incorporated Societies Act. Mr McMillan of the Bay of Plenty Centre, under which Taupo comes, had advised that he would bring over to Taupo three of four teams any Sunday which suited Taupo after September 21, to give a demonstration, together with some of their committee to help in the forrni ation of the association. Mr McMillan pointed out the association had nothing to do with the internal economy of any teams or clubs which ran their own aifairs, and was only set up to co-ordinate with the centre and headquarters regard ing visi;ting teams in and out of the district, judges, and rules of competition. (The above information was passed on last week to Mr Silva of the Girls' Marching Team.) It was decided that Mr Stevens and Mr Wright approach the executive of the Girls' Marching Team in Taupo, and discuss the matter of forming an association.

GIRL GUIDES CONCERT The organiser stated that he had been approached by Mrs Peart, Captain of the Girl iGuides Association, on the question of a Children's Concert Party to be organised during the campaign. It was decided that a Children's Concert Party be incliided in the programme. Maori Haka Competition The question of a Maori haka competition being organised by Taupo and surrounding schools to be part of the festival week, was discussed. Mrs Reid undertook to co-operate with Mr Grace to see what could be arranged, and would give a report at the next executive ieeting. The chairman deolared the meeting closed with a vote of thanks to Mr B. Armstrong, and intimated that the next meeting of the executive would be held in Mr B. Armstrong's office, on Monday, 'September 15 at 8 p.m.
