A ROBOT "COP"
ELBCTRONIC TRAFFIC REGULATOR An elaborate electronic-guided system which calculates the flow of automobile trafffc in streets and adjusts traffie signals to fit the flow was tested sueessfully in 'Denver, Colorado (U.S.A.) recently. Automatically it l6ngthens the jgreen "go"^ signals in the direction of the heaviest traffie, permitting it to pass ahead with the fewest possible stops for traffie signals. By means of pressure pads at street interseetions, the flow of cars is counted and this information is relayed to a centrally-located electronic brain which calculates the direction in which the traffie flow is -heaviest and autom* tically adgusts the signal lengths to suit the traffie. The electronic regulator, first of its kind, is expected to be the model for others in cities where traffie congestion is an acute problern.
